prompt 194: video blog ((wow, you can talk to him again!))
194 - "The true magic of this broken world lay in the ability of the things it contained to vanish, to become so thoroughly lost, that they might never have existed in the first place." - The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay, by Michael Chabon

"Someone slid a page out of this book under the door of the cheap hotel I'm staying in while I get my life in order after Sunnydale blew up. This chunk was highlighted." Andrew scowls at the camera.
"Who the hell are these people, anyways? I mean, who's... keeping track of me. Why? It's not like I'm... anybody, really. Right? I'm just this guy. Well okay I can summon flying monkeys." A pause.
"None of you know anything about that though, do you. I mean- uh- is the real magic in the world the ability of things to just vanish? I don't think so- things don't vanish. Einstein says you can't transform matter into nothing, that's just straight relativity. Nothing can turn into nothing at all- you wind up with matter instead of energy- or energy instead of matter. but nothing? Nope." He pounds his hand on the table as he says "It. Doesn't. Work. That. Way."
The webcam jumps with each pound's reverberation and falls off the table with 'way'- a view of the instep of his sneaker is followed by a whiny "oww..." and he picks the camera up from the table.
"Isn't the magic of this world how so little can mean so much? I mean, like... that Proust guy and the cookie, right? This French guy, he goes into a cafe, he buys a cookie and then writes a couple thousand pages of a book because the cookie reminds him of his mom who reminds him of his boyhood which reminds him of which reminds him of. That's magic; making something out of nothingness, not making something into nothing. And well, I mean... I kind of have a professional's view on the question." He grins smugly as he checks the laptop for what the camera sees... and the grin fades.

"Oh god my hair's a mess." And then he scowls. "And who is this that's trailing me? It's... spooky."
